Finetech to Invest in New Production and Development Center

Today, Finetech GmbH & Co. KG celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art production and development center in Berlin-Marzahn. About EUR 8m will be invested to ensure optimal conditions for on-going business growth. For development, planning and construction of the new building Finetech has appointed Vollack Group, specialized in methodical building concepts.

Finetech was founded in 1992 in Berlin-Friedrichshain and has since evolved into a leading manufacturer of rework stations for professional SMD repair and high-precision assembly systems for semiconductor packaging in R&D, prototyping and production. Currently, close to 100 employees in Berlin and Dresden are engaged in the manufacturing of manual to fully-automated FINEPLACER® systems. The product range is known for quality, longevity and is considered a future-proof investment as the modular FINEPLACER® systems can be easily adapted to new technological developments for many years. To ensure quick response to customer requirements, Finetech is maintaining sales and service subsidiaries in global core markets. However, the entire value-added cycle from product development to manufacturing to sales is handled in Germany.

New company domicile allows more efficient processes

Curently, the FINEPLACER® systems are developed and manufactured at the econopark industrial zone in Berlin-Marzahn. Over the last years, all departments of Finetech have grown close to capacity limits and are now spread out over two separate buildings and three floors. “Not only does this result in long ways but is also very time-consuming when it comes to communication and coordination processes”, said Finetech CEO Gunter Kürbis. In that regard, the new buildings complex on the acquired 19.000 sqm premises will provide vast opportunities of adapting processes and workflows according to current and future requirements.

The new company domicile in Marzahn will consist of a two-story production and office building with an effective area of 1.780 sqm as well as a separate steel building factory floor with 3.200 sqm. Furthermore, a generous cafeteria and numerous green spaces will be available to the employees for recreation and sporting activities. Specifically for working with high sensitive devices, the two-story production and office building will contain several ISO 9-6 class cleanrooms providing a near dust-free environment. Another distinct feature of the building complex is its low energy concept. By combining modern ventilation facilities with a pebble bed accumulator it is possible to utilize hot outlet air from the production process and cool outdoor air for energy saving air-conditioning of the building.

Official laying of the foundation stone

To mark the offical start of the construction project and in keeping with tradition, the Finetech shareholders together with CEO Gunter Kürbis, the Marzahn district council of economy Christian Gräff and Bernd Haase, CEO and partner of Vollack Berlin, today placed a time capsule in the foundation stone. The time capsule contained the architect’s plan, select company brochures, some of today’s newspapers, several coins as well as a 3D glass model of a FINEPLACER® bonding system. “I’m very happy to be here today and give the starting signal”, said Gunter Kürbis. “I’m convinced the new production and development center will put us all in the position to be optimally prepared for the challenges and opportunities on the horizon.”

Conception, planning and realization of the building project has been assigned to Vollack Group, a specialist for methodical building concepts. „Vollack convinced us with their strategic approach“, explained Gunter Kürbis. „In a co-operative effort, we started out by capturing all our company processes and workflows. Based on that, they went ahead and presented us a tailor-made building concept“.

Completion of the constructions works is scheduled for December 2014.
